Mini Comic and the Comic Con!

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

Alright! Comic Con was super fun, super crowded, and the trip was super short. I also used the word “super” a lot. While checking in at a hotel, for example. That has stopped.

I made it to a few awesome panels – a comics creator panel (with Mignola, Morrison, Fraction, Lee, and a few others), a graphic novel panel (with Tomine, Modan, Robinson, plus more), a cartoon voices panel (with Billy West), and a Kevin Smith panel about his next movie, Zack and Miri Make a Porno. We also went to a very funny Penny Arcade Q&A, and a comics podcasting panel, with the ISR b’ys in attendence. I also picked up a couple of new books and got a few autographs. Most folks drew a little picture for me – I’ll have to scan some and post later.

I picked up several mini-comics and managed to give away a few of my own, which was awesome. If you’d like to get your paws on one, leave a comment or send me an e-mail and I’ll hook you up. How’s 2 bucks sound? Make it $3 if I have to mail it to you. It is very nicely packaged, and the cover has a lovely texture. 29 pages of new comics in one sweet pamphlet.

Here are a few choice pics from the trip! Scott illustrated a book, Chopper Zombie, which launched at the Con. You can pick it up at any fine comics retailer near you. And you should! It looks awesome and gruesome!

Some progress has been made

Still working away on my show for January, and I thought I’d throw up a few more images for your viewing pleasure. Steady as she goes.

It feels like I have a lot done when they’re all jammed in a corner like this.

One more for now.

Bonu$ Comic

Here we have a comic I made today for a fundraiser at Eastern Edge Gallery. People made custom beer labels to be auctioned off with a nice big homemade bottle of brew. I hope I get one of the things I bid on – either John Haney’s goat/text painting, or a nifty mini-book by Mary McDonald…

Comics and Paintings

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009

I made a second batch of my latest comic book this week, and I took a picture of all the crap layed out for you to enjoy.

If you’d like to buy a copy ($3) or make a trade, please contact me! I might be heading to FanExpo 09 next weekend, so I figured I should have a few more on hand. I’ll also be spending the next few months in Toronto. I’m hoping to do some printing and volunteering at the Open Studio printshop, and make more comics! And probably play some Nintendo and visit the zoo a zillion times.

Here are the last two large paintings I’ll be making, for a little while. I’m definitely going to miss my awesome studio for the next few weeks.

Saxon and Kenzie.

I drew this image from Mouse Guard Fall 1152 so I would have something to try out my new Dr. Ph Martin’s watercolours on. Apologies to Mr. Petersen! I’m not so good at using them, but I think it’s a decent start. I first saw Lucy Knisley use them on a Ustream video; she was painting an illustration of The Nanny. Then I saw it in person when I went to TCAF and bought her book  : )

Incidentally, Mouse Guard Fall 1152 and Winter 1152 are super fantastic books if you get a chance to pick them up.

More minicomics to come in the future. I also like to make trades, so please let me know if you are interested!

I will also be adding some small paintings and prints over the next few weeks.
