I’ve gotten pretty good at carrying groceries myself.
Hi! I’ve got some new paintings headed for the Leyton Gallery for their new show, Celebration of Colour.
It’s also the gallery’s 10th Anniversary! The opening is on Saturday, May 11th from 12 to 5 and runs until June 16th.
And here’s a little review from The Telegram.
The finalists have been announced in the “Evolution of Abe Sapien” art contest at Multiversity Comcis, so I can post up my entry now. I had so much fun drawing something like this. I was glad to come up with an idea in the first place. Click for a better look!
Dave’s been making some excellent gifs over on his blog and I thought I’d try one today. It’s a start I suppose!
I’ve got a piece in this large show opening at The Rooms and the Craft Council in St. John’s next Friday, January 25th.
The call was for an artwork that could be shipped in a box measuring 12″x12″x16″ and had the theme of “boxed-in.” I opted to use comics as an obvious medium that fits into boxes. The (5) outer 12″x12″x12″ comic panels correspond with (20) 6″x6″x6″ panels, which then break down into (80) 3″x3″x3″ panels. The final piece is all packed up together for display, like some snuggly nesting comics. You can view pictures of my piece all unboxed here.
Some of the work is currently at The Rooms, while the rest is at the Craft Council of NL on Duckworth St. . After 6 weeks, the artworks will switch venues!
Click on the invite below for all the details.
I have a piece in this show (Cotton Club) that is up at The Rooms in St. John’s right now, 25 for 25: A celebration of the Provincial Art Bank Program’s 25 years of collecting
From The Rooms:
25 FOR 25
A touring exhibition from the Provincial Art Bank of Newfoundland and Labrador
December 1, 2012 – January 11, 2013 (Level 4)
25 for 25 is an exhibition that was first presented to celebrate 25 years of collecting artwork from artists working in Newfoundland and Labrador by the government of the province.
The 25 artists chosen for the exhibition represent emerging and established artists, as well as a sample of the diversity of media in the collection. Young artists such as Jonathan Green, Mike Gough, Kym Greeley and Michael Pittman represent a new direction for the visual arts in the province and are paired alongside established household names like Christopher Pratt, Mary Pratt, Gerald Squires and David Blackwood.
The show will be installed in Labrador spring 2013.
I’ve finally put all the Fat Bird comics here on the main site; just click on the link at the very top that says Fat Bird! ^>^
Fat Bird comics will still update regularly over on the Tumblr, as well.
I’ve put some holiday cards back up in my Etsy shop this week, head on over for a look-see.
We’ve got a set of wintry animals, and another set of a very tipsy owl. The owl cards are Gocco prints and the others are linocuts with watercolour spots. Both sets come with snowflake-printed envelopes.
I’m also accepting commissions for small paintings and drawings so if you’re interested please send me an e-mail at jnbarrett20 @ hotmail . com!
