The b'ys enjoyed their trip around the corner and down to the gallery last night, and even posed for a photo with a drunk man smoking a cigarette. The streets are tough, indeed.
That said, here's the press release. So please drop into the gallery today or over the next month to visit if you're around!
Special thanks to the NLAC
for their generous support.
Thank you thank you Scott.
Characters come to life in new exhibitions at Eastern Edge Gallery
Eastern Edge Gallery is pleased to present three exciting new exhibitions to kick off 2009 featuring artists Jennifer Barrett (NL), Cindy Baker (SK) and Anita Singh (NL).
Based on a comic strip of the same name in Werebears and Only Children
Jennifer Barrett creates a multi-media installation with painting, sculpture and video projection. Her work revolves around the extrapolation of blind contour drawings and the modification of autobiographical comics. A big fan of non-traditional comics, Barrett mixes personal story and experience through her characters. In Wearbears and Only Children
these characters visit themselves standing silently offering their own critique to the work presented.
In Personal Appearance
Cindy Baker is equiped with a professional mascot costume of herself. In other words, Cindy Baker will make personal appearances as Cindy Baker. This is a project about performing oneself; the performance of expectations based on one's persona, in particular the gendered form of the artist herself. Personal Appearance
is confrontational by nature yet cuddly and approachable through experience. Be sure to be on the lookout in and around the St. John's area!
Finally in The Rogue Gallery local artist Anita Singh presents DOCUMENTED.
These exhibitions are on view from January 10th until February 21st. Please join us at the opening on January 10th at 3 to 5 pm and for the artists talk on January 15th from 7 to 9pm.
